Akufuna is a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of the UK. He has undergone Tax Inspectors' and Tax Officers' Courses training.

During his time at ZRA, he was a trainer for tax investigations.

He was a key member in a number of ZRA driven projects involving changes to the operational processes and procedures including policies and legislation often taking a leading role in some of the processes.

Akufuna has over 35 years practical experience in the Zambian Taxation system. Akufuna worked for then Income Tax Department where he rose to the position of Inspector of Taxes.

He rose to the position of Senior Inspector of Taxes in the now Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) up to 2003 when he left.

He also chaired several committees like production and quality committee, and the assessment template committee.

He was also a member on the SSADM Project tasked to identify business processes in the then Direct Taxes Division that were to be computerised. Akufuna had a stint as a Tax Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2003.

He has been a Tax Consultant at CYMA since 2004. Akufuna was recently a key team member on drafting the audit sector notes for the Zambia Construction and the Wholesale and Retail sectors for the Zambia Revenue Authority that were successfully completed in November 2016.
